Jovani metallic lace fitted dress

If you’ve already got your wedding dress ticked off, it’s time to turn your attention to the rest of your bridal party. One of the best experiences is usually picking out your bridesmaid dresses. Not only do these need to suit your chosen bridesmaids, but the color and style should also reflect the big day that you have planned.

Bridesmaid dresses have garnered a bad reputation over the years. They are known as everything between the ridiculously overdone to the purposefully unflattering. They were a dark stain on the fashion world for the better part of a century.

These old fashioned dresses were to be worn once as a backdrop to the bride. Then photographed excessively, and kept as a thankfully distant memory in a dusty wedding album. Until recently.

Recently, brides have been much kinder to their maids and matrons. They’re allowing their dresses to shine alongside the beautiful white pièce de résistance wedding dress and creating a sartorially striking bridal party. One of the major wedding trends has seen brides deciding on a length and color and allowing the bridesmaids to take it from there.

This makes for a more interesting tableau at the altar on the big day with a mixed but matching look. It also allows you to pick a silhouette that truly suits your body type – and one you actually want to wear again. The most popular bridesmaid dress colors at the moment are neutral, coral, pastel, navy blue, blush, mint, and gray.

We’ve selected a favorite style of ours from the Jovani bridesmaid dress collection in each hue. Each one prized for both its beauty and its versatility to be worn outside of the wedding day.

NEUTRAL

Neutral territory consists of safe, easy to blend shades. That doesn’t mean they have to be boring and it’s a vast color palette. Case in point: This champagne stunner.

The intricate lace silhouette is dotted with twinkling rhinestones. The elegant detail is subtle, so it won’t detract from the bride’s big moment. It will attract many an admiring eye on the dance floor later.

This fitted gown is designed to flatter your curves. The full-length designer bridesmaid gown finishes with a classic mermaid skirt and a short train. It’s so flattering and effortless to wear.

Loose waves and a side part will play up the romantically glamorous aesthetic. Enhance the drama with a deep bronze shadow and pale lip. For shoes, we recommend a strappy stiletto in metallic leather or a light-colored satin.

Once the wedding’s over, keep this dress in the front of the closet for your next special occasion. The versatile design can be worn for almost any evening event. Not to mention every single wedding you’ve marked in that busy day planner of yours.
CORAL
Coral dresses are an instant day-brightener. Both elegant and sexy, this chiffon and jersey floor-length style is sure to turn the groomsmen’s heads. Focal points include its vintage sweetheart neckline and strategic thigh-high slit.

We especially love the curve-skimming silhouette on tall, leggy girls. You can always enhance your height with a pair of vertiginous heels. Stick to a pair with a bit of shimmer.

Speaking of shimmer, dust your décolletage and cheekbones with a bit of bronzer to complement the summery hue of your dress. Carry it through to a golden eye shadow.

Accessorize the look with bold chandelier earrings and an oversized cocktail ring. Give things an effortlessly chic finish with soft, glossy curls. Post-wedding, we see this dress getting a lot of wear for everything from elegant beach soirees to upscale fundraising events.

PASTEL
It’s hard not to look pretty in pastels. There’s something irresistibly sweet and romantic about them. These soft hues are a perfect pick for a celebration of love.

This on-trend two-piece dress embodies that aesthetic in a gauzy light blue silk chiffon. The A-line skirt silhouette gives it a classic appeal. The bare midriff and open back keep things fresh and young.

Crystal embellishments showcase a small waistline and detail the sleeveless top in an ornate pattern. This style is so much fun to wear. You’ll be beaming all night long.

A dab of highlighter at the cheekbones and temples will pick up that natural glow. Wear your hair in a loosely twisted top knot to off-set the high neckline. That will continue the easy elegance theme you’ve got going on.

As far as shoes are concerned, we’d complete the look with a perplex slipper or glittery ballet flats. Keep this dreamy duo on hand for prom, your sorority formal, award season events, and the like.

NAVY BLUE
Navy blue has edged its way in as the chic older sister to tried and true black. Simple, sophisticated, and straight-forward, it’s alluringly grown-up. Just like this full-length gown’s figure-forming silhouette.

The one-shoulder design is cut from scuba fabric. This thicker fabric has seen a recent resurgence, popping up on all the runways. Its popularity can be attributed to its sleek look. It has an unmatchable ability to hide any flaws. (Not that you have any, of course.)

A mermaid skirt lends vintage appeal. A ruffled detail adds a dose of fashion-forward drama. Wear your hair long and straight or in a high-shine side pony to let the shoulder do the talking.

This is our favorite look for hosting duties and the charity circuit – and any gala that arises in between.
BLUSH
The perfect blend of sweet and spice! This timeless silhouette beguiles in floral lace, sheer skirting, and a smattering of crystal adornments. A high neckline and slight mermaid skirt bookend the dress with the ladylike elements required by wedding propriety. Its open back brings the aforementioned spice.

Stand tall on an open-toed pump or a strappy stiletto sandal. Go full gusto with your hair – full-volume tresses will balance out the scalloped-edge cap sleeves. Jeweled drop earrings and a simple bracelet will put a lovely coda on the ensemble.

Once you pick the dress up from the dry cleaners, wear it immediately to a backyard dinner party with twinkling lights. It will also fit any boho – but very chic – event, for that matter.

MINT
This minty-fresh dress is perfect for the wedding that calls for a little extra va-va-voom. Princess seaming defines the hourglass silhouette while a tiered skirt adds fun and flair. The deep plunge neckline is fitted with a sheer panel for a decorous finish.

Go for tumbling curls or an elegant chignon for the hair and embellish with a bold cat-eye liner. Add a polished up-do to keep your lines clean. This is one of those dresses that you will love to pull out for every glam event in your future.

You can’t help but feel like a starlet in the red carpet ready design, but at the same time, it’s subdued enough so it won’t steal the bride’s spotlight.

GRAY

Floaty and ethereal, this gorgeous dress knows how to make an entrance – and an exit, thanks to the low V-back. Large floral embroidery is dotted with pearlescent beads, enhancing the graceful charm. A modest V-neckline creates a flattering frame for the décolletage.

Amplify the effect by forgoing a necklace and keeping the twinkle in vintage rhinestone earrings.  A classic style like this provides a perfect canvas for cocktail jewelry. The gunmetal hue looks great against a silver shoe. That could be either a strappy sandal or a fierce pointed toe for contrast.

Rife with charisma, this silhouette will remain party perfect for years, making every special occasion even more memorable.  If gray isn’t your favorite, try out a sparkly silver dress instead!
